Karli Rodriguez is a
21-year-old attending graduate school at Westminster College where she is majoring
in Elementary Education. She graduated
from the University of Utah in May 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early
Childhood Education. She began taking
piano lessons when she was seven years old and took for nine years until she
began to teach at the age of 16. During
this time she was taking vocal training from a private teacher as well as being
involved in her schools concert and a cappella choirs. She has starred in numerous musicals
including the chance to play Dorothy in The
Wizard of Oz at Murray High School in 2009.
After teaching piano for four years and taking voice lessons for five
years, she decided to share her love of singing with children as well. She currently has seventeen piano and three
vocal students who range in age from five to fifteen. Her love of teaching piano gave her the
realization that teaching is what she wanted to do as a career. She gets many of her teaching techniques from
the classes she took and is currently taking while attending college. Classes such as child development, learning
theories, understanding children, and more have helped Karli to understand how
children learn and the best ways to differentiate instruction for each specific
child to help them reach their fullest potential.
Karli has also gone to piano teaching workshops at Day Murray Music and
taken Music Theory from the University of Utah to help her understand piano
concepts on a deeper level. She is
currently the pianist for her church choir and church children’s primary group
as well. When she is not at school or
teaching piano, she loves to work at her local Elementary School, play the
guitar and piano, sing, compose music and hang out with her family and
friends.
